Environmental Health
The Central Montana Health District Environmental Health program provides services to protect and improve the health of the environment in the district in many different areas, including subsurface wastewater management, food and public accommodation safety and sanitation, bioterrorism and emergency preparedness and communicable disease surveillance and prevention.
The CMHD Environmental Health office employs one full-time registered public health sanitarian and one public health sanitarian-in-training to provide the following services:
Food Safety - conduct plan reviews of all retail, wholesale and manufacturing outlets in central Montana prior to opening, license establishments and inspect them routinely, offer food safety classes and public education
Daycare Centers, Group Homes & Schools - inspect licensed daycares, group homes and schools for healthy, safety and sanitation
Public Accommodations & Pools- conduct plan reviews of hotels and motels prior to opening in central Montana, license and inspect hotels, motels, trailer courts, campgrounds, public swimming pools and spas to ensure health,s afey and sanitation compliance
Septic System Permits - issue permits prior to installing/repairing/replacing on-site sewage disposal systems in central Montana; inspect systems being installed/repaired/replaced prior to burial to ensure they meet state and local regulations; maintain septic records, which are available to the public
Subdivision Review - review proposed subdivisions, family transfers, boundary relocations and certificates of survey with regard to water supply, sewage, storm water and solid waste disposal
Communicable Surveillance & Prevention - investigate animal bite complaints and coordinate follow up visits with the local law enforcement, animal shelters, veterinarians and medical centers; investigate and follow up on food-borne illnesses diagnosed in central Montana residents; help investigate and control the spread of communicable diseases in central Montana
Bioterrorism & Emergency Preparedness - work cooperatively with local emergency agencies in developing and executing plans for emergency response, as well as responds to related emergencies and authorize proper clean up procedures and food handling practices.
